Manchester United had two of their key players recognised last night.

Outstanding performers

Bruno Fernandes had an outstanding season last year as he guided his side to a third-place finish in the league.

What’s more, he also broke the Premier League assist record, making 21 in total last season.

New signing Jess Park was also huge for the Women’s team last year.

She was a transformative figure on the pitch who conjured up numerous goals and assists for the Women’s side as they reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League in their inaugural season in the competition.

Awards

Both players were awarded by the club at the end of last season, but both players received special praise and recognition from their fellow professionals last night.

Bruno Fernandes was crowned the Premier League Player of the Season by his fellow professionals last night.

Jess Park was also voted by her peers into the WSL Team of the Season, the only Manchester United representative.

Commenting after his own award, Fernandes praised the role of Park last season in the Women’s team in comments carried by the club’s official website.

The Portugal international explained, “it’s very nice” that she also won an award.

He continued, “obviously, I think she was a little bit of what I was when I came. She was the spark of the team when the team needed her to do something different.”

Reflecting on her performances in her first year, he commented, “since she came, she was unbelievable for the team, she was amazing, she had a great season for us and I hope that she can keep growing, and getting better and better.”

Fernandes also believes that there is still much more to come from Park, as he added, “and for the team to get something more from her because she is an unbelievable player and she is very young still.”

Park will next be in action this Saturday against Manchester City in a pre-season warm-up before facing London City Lionesses in their first WSL match of the season on Friday 4th September.
