Julian Alvarez and his camp furious with Simeone, will continue to push for Barcelona move – report

The “Julian Alvarez case” is heating up and becoming increasingly contentious.

The Atletico Madrid striker, a priority target for FC Barcelona this summer, spoke with his coach, Diego Simeone, in the minutes before the morning training session earlier today.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner had to wait two days to reiterate his desire to play for Barça, but the conversation did not go as well as the Argentine international had hoped.

As reported already, Simeone referred to the club’s decision not to sell him and refused to entertain any arguments.

Now, according to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo (h/t SPORT), this has deeply angered both Alvarez and his camp.

They feel betrayed by the coach who fought hard to convince him to join Atletico back in 2024 and who had appeared capable of being a possible avenue for persuading the club to let him leave.

Alvarez came away very disappointed from the brief conversation with Simeone. The only explanation the coach gave him was that he was counting on him and would do everything possible during the season to make him a better player.

As such, the 26-year-old striker is becoming increasingly overwhelmed by his situation and is watching time pass without anything changing that could open negotiations with Barcelona.

Break down in relationship

Alvarez and his camp believe Simeone is not handling the situation well, because the striker trusted him and his project when he decided to leave England despite having other options.

They believe there was an understanding that he would be allowed to leave as long as Atletico Madrid received a good offer.

A strong bond developed between the two after the striker joined the Spanish capital club, but that relationship has gradually deteriorated as Simeone has now completely sided with the Colchoneros.

In fact, they believe the Atletico Madrid coach has washed his hands of the situation and prefers to look the other way, despite always making it clear that he only wants committed players in his squad.

Alvarez and his camp had considered Simeone practically the only person capable of convincing Atletico’s directors to change their position, despite the complicated situation that has unfolded throughout the summer.

It now appears that this route is completely closed, and they will continue trying to resolve the matter further up the chain of command.

Alvarez will keep pushing for Barcelona move

The striker will not give up his efforts to leave for Barcelona and will continue applying pressure.

If Simeone has refused to listen to his arguments, the player will wait for chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin to return so that he can speak to him face-to-face.

Both Alvarez and his camp maintain that Gil Marin promised them he would facilitate a departure in the summer, but now they believe he has gone back on that commitment in an effort to keep the striker at all costs.

That meeting with Gil Marin could therefore be one of the final attempts to resolve an increasingly complicated situation.
