Leeds seal Jean-Matteo Bahoya after deadline, Melvin Bard joins as window closes
Leeds United’s summer business ended with two late arrivals, as Melvin Bard joined on loan and Jean-Matteo Bahoya was confirmed after the 11pm deadline.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, news of Bard’s imminent switch from OGC Nice emerged the night before. The left-back arrived in West Yorkshire and his season-long loan was announced in the evening.
For a while that looked to be it, with an expectation Wilfried Gnonto would be recalled from a prospective move to Fiorentina. His exit would only have been sanctioned if a new winger arrived, which seemed unlikely.
Around teatime, Leeds moved for Eintracht Frankfurt winger Bahoya, pursuing a season-long loan with an option to buy. Terms were agreed, but with time running out they submitted a deal sheet to the Premier League.
At 12.30am, 90 minutes after the 11pm cut-off, Leeds confirmed Bahoya’s arrival.
The deadline-day pair join Harry Wilson, Tarik Muharemovic, James Trafford, Nico Elvedi and Michael Zetterer to complete a seven-strong intake. Elland Road also bid farewell to Joel Piroe, Pascal Struijk, Karl Darlow and, most recently, Gnonto.
It capped a chaotic Premier League finale, with major moves completed and others collapsing late on.
