Liverpool hint at Bradley Barcola role after £123m transfer as debut date revealed

Reds bolster their attacking options with signing of France international

Liverpool have highlighted Bradley Barcola’s versatility after confirming the Frenchman’s £123million transfer.

It was announced on Monday that Barcola had become Liverpool’s third major signing of the summer, following deals for Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo.

The 23-year-old will further bolster Andoni Iraola’s attacking options that already includes the aforementioned Munoz, Alexander Isak, Rio Ngumoha, Hugo Ekitike, Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo - who could yet leave before Tuesday’s deadline.

Prior to Barcola’s arrival, there was a mixed reaction regarding Liverpool’s interest as Jamie Carragher and Daniel Sturridge, in particular, felt the squad had more than enough left-wingers.

While Barcola did predominately operate from that flank during his time at Paris Saint-Germain, he is equally comfortable on the right and it would appear his role under Iraola will be as a versatile forward.

Liverpool fans are on track to get a first glimpse of Barcola in a new-look attack on Friday, September 4 as the Frenchman has been signed and registered in time to make his Premier League debut against Ipswich Town.

His Anfield bow in Liverpool red could come a few days later when Atletico Madrid are the visitors in the first game in the league phase of this season’s Champions League.

"I had the chance to play twice in this stadium and I saw the atmosphere and how the fans were behind the Liverpool players,” Barcola added.

"When I knew about Liverpool's interest in me, I didn't ask questions and I knew it was a very big club for me."
