Liverpool suffer fresh Szoboszlai injury blow as Reds star looks devastated

Liverpool have suffered a double injury blow in their Premier League clash with Brentford as Dominik Szoboszlai was forced off the field barely 30 minutes into his return from injury, before Jeremie Frimpong lasted just 10 minutes after coming off the bench in the second half.
Hungarian star Szoboszlai had missed Liverpool's previous two matches, and with barely a half hour gone on the clock, he sat himself down on the turf. The midfielder quickly signalled to the bench that he needed to be replaced, with Trey Nyoni coming on for the Reds ace.
Szoboszlai headed straight down the tunnel after leaving the pitch, but had looked devastated as he was sat on the field waiting for Liverpool's medical staff to come to his aid.

It was a case of dejavue as Dutch defender Frimpong was left clutching his leg just five minutes after being introduced to the match. He received some treatment before limping off the field to be replaced by Rio Ngumoha.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of the match, Andoni Iraola left the door open for Szoboszlai, alongside Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak, to be involved.
“It’s early for us to say, we have still tomorrow’s training,” said Iraola. “Obviously, they were not ready for last night [against LASK].
“We have to wait and see. I think it’s still very early but the same way I said they are not available for the previous games, I leave the chance open this time, yes.”

Szoboszlai and Isak were eventually deemed fit enough to start the match, while Gakpo made it onto the bench. Iraola may now be doubting his decision as his injury concerns continued.
With the Reds' schedule ramping up between Premier League and Champions League action, Iraola had discussed the importance of having more players available and he would have been relieved to include an important trio in his squad to face Brentford.
“In this period especially, when we are basically playing every three days – almost less than three days – you need more players. That’s why we changed the team a little bit yesterday. We will need to change again at the weekend, we will need to change again when we face Villarreal in another three days.

“We need everyone, we will need everyone in one moment or the other. Everyone has to be ready because we will need him probably.”
The drama did not end there for Liverpool in the first half. The Reds looked to have won a penalty when Dango Ouattara slid in on Alexis Mac Allister, but VAR intervened to overturn the referee's decision.
Moments later Keane Lewis-Potter opened the scoring for Brentford to send the home fans into jubilation. But the half ended on a sour note for the Bees when Yehor Yarmolyuk was sent off following another VAR intervention.
Jeremy Jacquet went down holding his face, with Yarmolyuk spotted moving his head towards the Liverpool defender and eventually receiving his marching orders.
