Liverpool’s Jérémy Jacquet likens Newcastle atmosphere to Marseille’s Vélodrome

Jérémy Jacquet, 21, made his Premier League debut for Liverpool in Sunday afternoon’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle United.

"The atmosphere? It wasn’t bad. It reminded me a bit of the Vélodrome (Olympique de Marseille’s stadium). It’s an iconic stadium, fans shouting everywhere. That’s why I’m here. I like that," he told Canal Plus.

Jacquet left formative club Rennes over the summer to join Liverpool. His move was confirmed 12 months after Rennes recalled him from a season-long loan at Clermont Foot in January 2025.

He established himself quickly under Habib Beye in the second half of that season. He was then prominent at the start of last season.

He secured his move to Liverpool during the winter transfer window, then suffered a shoulder injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
