Maddison set to miss at least three Tottenham games due to shoulder fracture

Tottenham Hotspur are optimistic James Maddison’s latest injury setback will not keep him sidelined for long, according to David Ornstein.
The Spurs midfielder is expected to miss around two weeks after suffering a minor shoulder fracture.
Maddison picked up the injury as Tottenham lost their Premier League opener 3-0 after falling awkwardly during his substitute appearance.
An MRI scan subsequently revealed a small fracture, although Tottenham are confident the problem is not serious.
The 29-year-old trained on Monday, an encouraging early indication that he could return sooner rather than later.
The setback comes at an unfortunate time for Maddison, who had only recently returned to regular competitive football following a nightmare 12 months.
The England international star missed almost the entire 2025/26 campaign after suffering a ruptured ACL.
He returned in May as a substitute before two more appearances from the bench before the season ended.
Maddison initially suffered a partial ACL tear during Tottenham’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Bodo/Glimt in May 2025.
He then attempted to return during pre-season but suffered a full rupture.
His injury history has continued to frustrate Spurs since his £40 million-plus arrival in 2023. He has made only 79 appearances for the club.
Tottenham are already dealing with several other absences.
Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert are recovering from ACL injuries, while Dejan Kulusevski missed the entirety of last season.
Mohammed Kudus has only recently returned to training after a lengthy quad problem.
Micky van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr also missed the Brentford defeat, while Pedro Porro was unavailable following a shortened pre-season after Spain’s World Cup triumph.
Spurs will be desperate to bounce back from the opening-day defeat to Brentford and start the road to redemption when they face Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup tomorrow.
They then take on Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest in the league, all games Maddison will likely miss. He should be back versus Everton on September 12.
