Man City charges LIVE: Premier League giants facing appeal deadline TODAY after new PM statement as HMRC urged to open investigation

Hello and welcome to Mirror Football's live blog covering the fallout from the Premier League's guilty verdict on Manchester City for Friday, October 2.
The pressure is being cranked up on the Premier League club with their deadline for an appeal today. The Treasury Committee, which is responsible for overseeing policies and administration of His Majesty's Revenue and Customs, have asked whether the government department has requested the redacted documents contained within the commission's report.
The Premier League announced earlier this week that City had been found guilty of 114 charges brought against them for financial breaches.
City responded by maintaining their innocence and have until the end of today to launch an appeal, with the club expected to do so before the deadline.
Their top-flight rivals are said to be readying legal action against them to the tune of £800million, while a cross-party group of MPs have urged HMRC to investigate the tax implications of the Premier League's charges.
It now remains to be seen what punishment is given to City, with reports claiming that chiefs at other football clubs want a sanction to be imposed before the end of the season.
Etihad, the main shirt sponsor for City, meanwhile, have also issued a statement in response saying they are "deeply concerned" by the Premier League's announcement. There are also concerns that City's Abu Dhabi owners could be stripped from the club, something Prime Minister Andy Burnham doesn't want to happen.
City are now set to argue that the government of Abu Dhabi - not the club's owners - part-funded the "sham" sponsorship deals that contributed to them breaching Premier League financial rules.
Sweden and former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has poked fun at Manchester City's legal dispute with the Premier League.
During the international break, the nation have had a number of players forced to return to their clubs with injuries.
Potter, seeing the light in the situation, likened it to the 115 charges City have faced.
He said: "In terms of how many withdrawals, I think we've had a similar number to Man City's charges."

Manchester City are facing the very real prospect of the owners being stripped from the club, John Cross writes.
The Independent Football Regulator has confirmed it has the power to investigate the “suitability” of owners, directors and executives of clubs. That will raise serious question marks for City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and the Abu Dhabi group after being found guilty of breaching Premier League spending rules.
The IFR has the powers to step in and strip ownership of clubs. IFR chair David Kogan said: “The independent commission’s decision raises serious issues.
“The IFR has powers to assess the suitability of owners, directors and executives and we will use these powers where appropriate, in the interests of protecting the sustainability, honesty and integrity of English football where there is clear evidence of wrongdoing by individuals.

Downing Street has released a statement following accusations that Andy Burnham was 'backing' Manchester City's under-fire owners. It read: "The Prime Minister made clear the initial judgement is serious and there can't be any suggestion that anyone is above the rules."
"He also stressed that it is an ongoing independent process. It is essential that it is allowed to run its course and the outcome respected. If wrongdoing is established, those responsible should face the appropriate consequences."
The Trearury Committee, which is responsible for overseeing policies and administration for His Majesty's Revenue and Customs, has asked whether the government has requested redacted documents from the independent commission's report on Manchester City's investigation.

Manchester City have the right to appeal their guilty verdict over financial breaches spanning 2009 and 2018, however, they are running out of time to do so. That's because the Premier League have given the club a deadline of Friday, October 2 to do so.
