Man City release statement after being found GUILTY of Premier League charges

Manchester City claim that the Premier League's process into their charges is 'ongoing' despite reports claiming that they have been found guilty of over 100 charges of breaching the financial rules. City were initially charged three years ago following a lengthy investigation into their operations.

Reports surfaced on Friday afternoon that the club had been found guilty, and City have now spoken out.

A statement read: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.

“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”

The statement released by City back in February 2023 read: "Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

"The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all."

Despite having seemingly been found guilty, no punishment has been dealt out to City, while they are expected to appeal the decision, which could delay the conclusion of the process for some time.

A number of potential punishments have been touted for some time which include but are not limited to a significant fine or a points deduction. Expulsion from the Premier League has also not been ruled out.

City boss Enzo Maresca was asked about the charges earlier this summer and was sure that the lingering investigation would not impact his side's campaign.

“The only thing I can say is three years ago, the Treble season, I was here [as Guardiola's assistant], and it was the same words about this. In three years, it’s still the same,” the Italian coach said. “Nothing has happened. I don’t have any concerns personally.”

City have started the season in perfect form and sit top of the early table after winning each of their opening five games. Their next game will see them take on Liverpool after the international break.
