Manchester United open their pre-season account for the 2026-2027 season against Wrexham.
The
Welsh
side have risen to the Championship in recent years after three successive promotions.
United finished last season positively with a third-place finish and confirmed
Michael Carrick
as the new permanent manager of the club.
The Red Devils
have only played
five competitive games
against the Red Dragons, winning all five.
The last competitive game was a 5-2 win for the Red Devils in the 1995 FA Cup. Here are three storylines for the match to get the blood pumping.
United have had a very productive week, bringing in three new signings: Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow and Youri Tielemans.
Darlow stayed at Carrington to recover from a minor issue, while Tielemans is on holiday after captaining Belgium at the World Cup. Santos has been training all week with the squad and will likely get at least 45 minutes of action.
Much has changed since United’s last game against Wrexham. It has been over 30 years since the teams’ last competitive outing, but they did face one another in pre-season in 2023 in the United States of America.
United sent a youth team to face the then League Two side but were humbled 3-1. Wrexham now find themselves in the second tier, and United’s squad and manager are much changed from the 2023 team.
United have a long history of popularity in the north of Europe, and Finland is no exception.
Nonetheless, whilst they have frequently played in Sweden and Norway over the years, they have not played in Helsinki for a very long time.
Today’s match will be the first in over 60 years in the Finnish capital.
This was way back in 1965, when United defeated HJK Helsinki 3-2 in Finland.
The match will kick off at 16:00 BST at the Helsingin Olympiastadion.
