Man Utd & other EPL clubs ‘ready to do the unthinkable’ if Man City aren’t properly punished

Manchester United, Liverpool and others are determined to make Man City pay for their long-term modus operandi.

The extended international break was expected to be a slow period for football news, but instead, it yielded the biggest story of the year, as Manchester City were found guilty of 114 financial rule breaches.

Fans and observers alike are still trying to grasp it all, and even experts are struggling to provide satisfying answers, as the final outcome remains shrouded in mystery.

At this stage, it is clear that this case has shaken English football to the core. The Cityzens now risk being stripped of the domestic titles they have won since Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s takeover in 2008. Some expect the club to be dropped down one more division in the English football pyramid, not to mention the enormous fines.

However, City’s main rivals over the past 15 years or so believe that these punishments aren’t enough to bring justice for the irretrievable damage they suffered by finishing in the table behind a club that has caught breaking every rule in the financial book.

Therefore, Man Utd and many others are preparing lawsuits against MCFC.

According to British journalist Ben Jacobs, the Red Devils have estimated the financial damages at around £100 million, taking into account the Premier League titles they could have won, as well as missing out on Champions League qualification (particularly in the 2015/2016 season when they finished fifth behind Man City on goal difference).

Moreover, a popular account on X (formerly Twitter) confirms Man Utd and Liverpool’s intention to take legal action, adding that multiple clubs are toying with the idea of forming an independent league if the Premier League fails to take the appropriate measures against Man City

“Sources say Liverpool and Manchester United are ready to take legal action against Manchester City,” wrote the source.

“If severe sanctions are not placed on #mcfc, certain PL clubs are ready to do the unthinkable. Creating a new top tier with legitimate teams has been discussed.”

Should Man Utd and others break away from the Premier League?

In the current day and age, the Premier League is by far the most successfully run domestic league in the world, as evidenced by the immense revenues that clubs, from top to bottom, generate every year through their participation.

While the Man City case will inevitably leave a stain on the league’s reputation, the EPL officials are called upon to make amends by taking the necessary measures, as the league’s integrity is at stake.

Therefore, the last thing we need at this moment is a separation movement; hence why the EPL hierarchy must act swiftly and decisively to put an end to this dangerous plot.
