Man Utd chasing ‘phenomenal’ UCL left-back who only costs half of Lewis Hall

Manchester United have reportedly turned to Club Brugge full-back Joaquin Seys after missing out on Lewis Hall.
The Premier League giants have identified the left-back slot as one of their main priorities on the market before the end of the summer.
Luke Shaw is currently the only recognised left-back in the first team, as Patrick Dorgu has been exclusively used as a winger under Michael Carrick, while 19-year-old Harry Amass is more likely to be sold than kept.
Man Utd set sights on Joaquin Seys
At the start of the summer, Lewis Hall was identified as the primary target for the left-back role. Man Utd considered him the ideal profile for the role, as well as Shaw’s long-term successor.
However, Newcastle have recently expressly told off INEOS, insisting that Hall isn’t for sale, not even for £60 million, which was thought to be his asking price.
According to The Sun, MUFC have now moved to a new target, enquiring about Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys.
Like Hall, the Belgian is 21 years old. But while the Newcastle stay was left at home, his counterpart was called up for the World Cup.
The source identifies Man Utd and Arsenal as Seys’ keenest admirers, but they also believe that Aston Villa have been keeping tabs on the situation after selling Lucas Digne to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Belgium international could be available for £30 million, although Brugge are in no hurry to sell, as they have the player under contract until June 2029.
Would Seys be the right choice for Man Utd?
Needless to say, United would have preferred to buy a rising Englishman who has already proved his worth in the Premier League and knows English football inside out.
Nevertheless, Senne Lammens proved last season that recruiting the right players from smaller European leagues, particularly the Jupiler Pro League, can be highly rewarding. Hence, Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell could be tempted to go after another Belgian international, while the affordable price should convince INEOS and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
That being said, Seys certainly isn’t completely unknown by any means. This is a player who has been described as a ‘phenomenon’ after making his breakthrough in Brugge, and has already won four senior trophies and made 19 appearances in the Champions League, in addition to a 30-minute cameo in the World Cup quarter-finals against Spain.
