Man Utd fans revive brutal Man City banner after Premier League guilty verdict

Manchester United fans are reportedly set to restore a banner mocking Manchester City to Old Trafford for the clash against Tottenham this weekend. Last week it was revealed that City had been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League for financial breaches.
City are still maintaining their innocence and confirmed last Friday that they had submitted an appeal, claiming to have "a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence" that should clear them of any wrongdoing.
The Premier League returns this weekend after the extended international break, with United set to host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
The Athletic have reported that a United fan group will reimplement a banner which mocks their bitter rivals, City, in the aftermath of the guilty verdict which emerged last week.
The 'ticker' banner was present in the Stretford End at Old Trafford and showed how many years it had been since City had last won a major trophy, first starting with '24 years' on its initial appearance back in 2000.
The banner was taken down after City won the FA Cup in 2011, but the banner will make an appearance once again this weekend. A United fan group, The Red Army, have paid £114 to create a new banner which will have an updated number of years to mock City.
The banner will now read '51 years', joking that the trophies that City have won since that FA Cup triumph back in 2011 are no longer valid. Before the win at Wembley 15 years ago, City had not won a major trophy since claiming victory in the League Cup final back in 1976.

The allegations against City relate to the timeframe between 2009 and 2018, during which time the club won three Premier League titles, three League Cups and one FA Cup.
City are still denying the charges brought against them by the Premier League and issued a statement last week confirming they had submitted an appeal.
"Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 7pm on Thursday 1st October 2026 the Club lodged its comprehensive Appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission, in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter," the statement from City read.
"The club's firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.
"The club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case.
"We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete."
The appeal is expected to be heard before the end of the year, with the expectation that a decision could be reached sometime in January.
