Man Utd given Fernandes injury update as Carrick given fresh headache

Manchester United have been handed a huge Bruno Fernandes boost, with the midfielder now fully fit. The Red Devils initially had a concern after Fernandes had missed Portugal’s clash with Norway last week.

He had been undergoing an individual training programme and remained on international duty. And it now appears that Fernandes has now returned to full fitness.

According to reports in Portugal, the 32-year-old travelled to Malmo with the rest of his teammates and took part in training as normal. It is suggested that there were no lasting effects and Fernandes is now considered available for his nation’s clash with Denmark in Copenhagen.

Of course, United will be delighted that he has not sustained a long-term issue but might have preferred more recovery time for their captain. Instead, it is being suggested that he could be restored to Portugal’s starting XI.

1. Head THIS WAY

Speaking last week, boss Jorge Jesus said: “In the game against Wales, we went in with all the available players but Bruno Fernandes came off with a complicated problem. We’ll see what happens until tomorrow.

“Experience tells me that on the third day not all players manage to recover but that’s the same for Norway as for us. However, the player who comes in gives as many guarantees as the one who might come off, that’s what I’ll base my decision on.

“The medical team identified these two players as the most concerning, Nuno Mendes could be available for the game.

“The other case [Fernandes] involves treatment and recovery time. He’s coming off an injury at United, and he told me he’s been playing with that pain for the last three games, which is hindering him.

“It was one of the factors that prevented Bruno from playing at his best against Wales. I’ve already spoken to him and I prefer not to risk it in this game so he’s fully fit for the Denmark match.”

Following the clash against Denmark, Portugal have one further game during the international break as they take on Norway. Fernandes will then turn his attention back to his United commitments. He has scored four goals and provided an assist in seven appearances for Michael Carrick’s side so far this term.

The Red Devils' next Premier League game sees them take on Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford ahead of a Champions League showdown with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
