Manchester United will reportedly have to part with some of the money that they have earned from Mason Greenwood 's transfer from Marseille to Fenerbahce. United are set to receive a fee, thanks to a sell-on clause included in a deal which saw him move to France in 2024.

The academy product completed a £26.6million move two years ago, with United including a 40% sell-on clause. That is now set to kick into action, with Marseille selling the forward to Turkish side Fenerbahce for a reported £33.3million.

That means that United are set to receive around £13.3million from the sale. That money could be reinvested into the squad as Michael Carrick prepares to lead the team in the Champions League next season. The club have recently completed deals for both Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined £85million .

However, United will not pocket the entire amount generated by the clause. The Athletic reports that 20% of their share will go to Getafe following Greenwood's loan stint with the Spanish outfit during the 2023/24 campaign.

Consequently, £2.7million will be forwarded to Getafe, leaving United with roughly £10.5 million from the sell-on arrangement. The deal was established as part of the forward's move to Getafe following his arrest for attempted rape, assault and controlling behaviour in January 2022.

The case was subsequently dropped, with Greenwood denying all allegations.

The 24-year-old delivered impressive displays for both Getafe and Marseille. Throughout his loan period in Spain , he netted 10 times and registered six assists across 36 appearances.

That prompted Marseille to make their move the following summer. Across the past two seasons, Greenwood has found the net 48 times and laid on 17 assists in 81 outings across all competitions.

Given that Greenwood came through the academy at Old Trafford, both the initial sum received by United and the funds from the sell-on clause will count as pure profit under the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). It therefore represents another welcome boost to Carrick in the transfer window.

The forward earned glowing praise from former Marseille and current Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi. Speaking back in December, he said: "I see him every day, he has huge potential.

"I don't see any other players in Europe at the same level. He has the potential to win the Ballon d'Or. It will be up to him to decide whether he wants to do everything he can to fight for it or not.

"At the level of the qualities that nature has given him, that his parents have given him, I think he is worthy of the Ballon d'Or.
