Ederson could now be offered a new contract at Atalanta, the club have confirmed, amid growing doubts over his move to Manchester United . The Red Devils agreed a £38million deal for the midfielder in early June.
The Brazil international had been keen on a switch to Old Trafford and dropped hints during the World Cup that his move to Manchester was all but done. And Atalanta director Cristiano Giuntoli has now hinted that the 27-year-old could remain at the Serie A club, expressing surprise that Ederson's switch to Old Trafford has yet to be finalised.
He said: "We were stunned [by Man United calling Ederson deal off]. Now we are working on a new contract for him."
Ederson had previously been a summer target for Atletico Madrid, though they shifted their focus towards Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes – a move that also appears to have collapsed.
United had been keeping tabs on Ederson throughout his four-year stint at Atalanta and looked set to bring him in as part of a wholesale midfield shake-up this summer.
