Manchester City vs Manchester United: Latest City team news and predicted City starting eleven

Manchester City take on Manchester United today at Old Trafford in the 199th Manchester derby. Enzo Maresca’s side enters today’s match after four consecutive wins in all competitions. Their most recent 2-0 win against FC Porto at the Estádio do Dragão was arguably City’s most impressive to begin the 2026-27 season. However, form counts for little in derbies as history has proven time and time again. Michael Carrick’s side have been patchy to begin the new season. But they will be up for today’s match as will City. A tense and tight Premier League fixture awaits at Old Trafford.
Here is the latest Manchester City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven for today’s match.
Latest City injury and team news.
Nico O’Reilly and Jeremy Doku were the only two Manchester City players ruled unavailable for City’s win over FC Porto. Doku had been sidelined since the FA Community Shield defeat to Arsenal due to a calf injury. Nico O’Reilly sustained a minor back injury in the warm-up before City’s win over Coventry City last Saturday.
Enzo Maresca revealed on Friday that Nico O’Reilly is fit to take part in today’s Manchester derby. That is good news for Manchester City who will be grateful to have such a key player back in the fray for today’s match. Unfortunately, Enzo Maresca shared that today’s game has come too soon for Jeremy Doku. The Belgian winger may be in line to return to the pitch for Manchester City’s Carabao Cup tie against Norwich City or City’s next Premier League match against Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium next Sunday.
In terms of Manchester City’s team selection for today’s Manchester derby, it does look to be a straightforward team selection. Elliot Anderson will likely return to the starting lineup. The question is whether or not Enzo Maresca will start Anderson, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Enzo Fernandez in midfield in place of Rayan Cherki. There is certainly merit to that idea. However, Rayan Cherki looms as a match-winner with his penchant for creating magic out of nothing. The other selection issue could be Abdukodir Khusanov starting at right-back in place of Matheus Nunes. Khusanov’s pace of recovery may be required from the start due to Manchester United’s threat on the counter.
