Manchester United have announced the signing of youngster Cristian Orozco.
Statement
United have released a statement which reads, “Manchester United have completed the signing of exciting young midfielder Cristian Orozco.”
“The 18-year-old joins from Colombian Categoria Primera A side, Fortaleza CEIF.”
“Orozco, who was developed in Rojo FC’s academy, played five first-team games for Fortaleza last season and has represented Colombia up to Under-17s level.”
“He will initially be supported by the Academy while he settles into life at Manchester United.”
“Everyone at the club would like to welcome Cristian to United and wish him the very best of luck.”
Transfer shift
Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe assumed operational control of United in February 2024, the club has placed a greater emphasis on signing relatively unknown gems that can be world-class if nurtured well.
Orozco joins a long list of talented players who have joined United in recent times. This includes Sekou Kone, Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven, Diego Leon, Enzo Kana-Biyik, Leny Yoro and Patrick Dorgu.
United had a deal in place with Fortaleza CEIF for Orozco a while back, but he couldn’t complete the move until he turned 18. That happened last month.
Orozco has already had a taste of action in a United shirt. He featured against Altrincham last week, coming on from the bench after the hour mark.
As the Manchester Evening News note, he looks to be more physically developed compared to some youngsters United have brought in like Kone.
Michael Carrick has indicated he will not shy away from promoting academy prospects he considers prepared for first-team involvement. If Orozco performs well, he may progress more rapidly than originally expected.
