If a recent report from the BBC (as cited by
The Glasgow Times
) is true,
Celtic
have received a boost in pursuit of
Tyler Fredricson
. A January move for the
Manchester United
defender fell through due to an ill-timed injury. But he is expected to leave permanently this summer, failing to stake a claim in Michael Carrick’s plans.
The 21-year-old England youth international progressed through the Red Devils’ academy ranks. He played a key role in deep defence en route to conquering the FA Youth Cup in 2022, and has so far made four senior appearances for his boyhood club across the past two seasons. Injuries halted his progress in the recent past. But a fresh start elsewhere must now be pursued to fulfil his potential.
Celtic are facing fans’
frustration
following yet another slow transfer window. They seem not to have learnt from the mistakes made over the last two windows, even though Martin O’Neill reiterated the necessity of reinforcements despite getting them over the line in a dramatic Premiership triumph. While they have three senior names in Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales, the absence of a steady fourth-choice centre-half must be addressed before it gets too late.

The
Hoops
loaned in Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from Manchester City but eventually terminated his spell due to the lack of assured minutes. Benjamin Arthur was brought in to restore parity in the heart of the backline. But the Brentford loanee has also returned to his parent club after making six appearances during his Parkhead tenure.
parted ways with Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh, who have now completed permanent transfers to Lens and Swansea City, respectively. Their strong display while on loan did not convince the board. Also, it remains to be seen whether Dane Murray prefers to stay for a bit-part role at the age of 23. The academy graduate has not impressed enough in limited opportunities, and the club should opt for a younger alternative, who would be deployed sporadically for the time being.
Fredricson has shown his maturity as a composed ball-playing centre-back by remaining calm and distributing it quickly and accurately under pressure. His game-reading, timely tackles and interceptions, supremacy in ground duels and aerial challenges earned him accolades at the academy level. He now needs extensive first-team exposure to showcase his attributes, and it is high time
reignited their interest, with Europe seen as a likely destination for the youngster, according to the report.
