Manchester United transfers: Michael Carrick eyes summer squad clearout as FOUR stars put up for sale

Emerging fan favourite and young prospects among stars put in the shop window

Michael Carrick has told four members of his Manchester United squad they are surplus to requirements ahead of the new season.

Carrick, who agreed to become United’s permanent head coach at the end of last season, has enjoyed a busy start to the transfer window as he looks to overhaul his midfield, adding Chelsea’s Andrey Santos and Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans to the tune of around £80m.

He is expected to bring in at least one more midfielder in this window, with defensive reinforcements also needed, but attention has now turned to outgoings.

Per reports in the Daily Mail, Carrick has now told four members of his squad to find a new club as they will not be needed this season: Radek Vítek, Harry Amass, Dan Gore and Toby Collyer.

It is disappointing news for Amass, who spent half of last season on loan at Norwich and had impressed in pre-season fixtures against Wrexham and Rosenborg, playing 45 minutes of each.

He has subsequently been put in the shop window, with the club willing to let him leave on loan or a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old midfielder Gore made 34 league appearances on loan at Rotherham last season, but has been told by Carrick he will not feature in his first-team in the coming campaign, with the Under-21s his best bet for minutes.

Collyer, 22, got the same message despite helping Hull City win promotion last season.

The news will not have come as a surprise for Czech goalkeeper Vitek, though, after he requested to leave the club in an interview after the Wrexham friendly, in which he played 45 minutes.

Speaking at full-time, he told reporters he hoped to be the club’s No1 one day, but that in the short term he is prepared to move elsewhere: “At the moment I am still here, but we will see, I hope (I can leave). I hope there will be some interest. You will know when things are more concrete.

The Czech has been made available for sale or a loan with an obligation to buy. His chances of playing a first-team role this season were hit earlier in the window after the signing of Karl Darlow and Tom Heaton’s decision to sign a new contract.
