Man United hopeful of triple fitness boost for trip to London

Manchester United hope to welcome three players back from injury as they travel to face Fulham in the Premier League.

Luke Shaw has not played since picking up a knock in the 2-2 draw with Everton almost a fortnight ago, subsequently missing the last three games across all competitions, with United losing two of those.

There was hope that the 31-year-old would be available for selection in the Carabao Cup tie at home to Brighton on Wednesday night following an injury update from Michael Carrick in the pre-match press conference.

However, Shaw sat out the 3-2 loss at Old Trafford and now it remains to be seen if he will return for the trip to Craven Cottage. Michael Carrick did not rule out a return on Sunday, but stressed caution.

There is positive news in that regard, with the England international being part of United’s travelling squad to the capital.

If Shaw is not passed fit, however, Patrick Dorgu is an option at left-back once again and the fact he was rested in midweek suggests he will get the nod there over Noussair Mazraoui.

Captain Bruno Fernandes has bad memories of Fulham away. In the corresponding fixture last season that finished 1-1, he missed a first half penalty and bizarrely blamed referee, Chris Kavanagh, for not apologising to him.

That will not prevent the attacking midfielder from being restored to United’s midfield in west London and Kobbie Mainoo is expected to replace Andrey Santos after being partially rested against Brighton.

Bruno Fernandes has a point to prove against Fulham

Benjamin Sesko did not quite grab the chance to establish himself as United’s go-to centre forward in the Carabao Cup tie, and he will not face the Cottagers after fans noticed the Slovenian’s absence as the squad prepared to board their train down south.

It remains to be seen what the striker’s injury is, or how long he could be out for.

As such, it is likely to be Matheus Cunha that leads the line once more.

Carlos Baleba is in contention to make his debut on Sunday, as the Cameroon international was part of the travelling cohort, while there could also be minutes for Matthijs de Ligt - his first since November last year - after the Dutchman made the squad at last after a long-term back injury.
