Matt Targett says Sunderland and Leeds should give Hull huge confidence for Premier League return
Matt Targett believes Sunderland and Leeds United should give Hull City huge confidence as they step back into the Premier League this season. According to Sunderland Echo, the left-back has joined on a two-year deal after leaving Newcastle United.
Sergej Jakirović’s side ended a nine-year absence with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final, sealed late by Scotland international Oli McBurnie.
Targett, 30, spent almost the entirety of last season on loan at the Riverside Stadium as Kim Hellberg’s team missed automatic promotion before losing at Wembley. He now gets another chance to impress in the top flight with the Tigers.
Targett said: “I’m delighted to be here.” He added: “He is very invested in the football club and speaks very passionately, so it didn’t take much convincing to join.”
“It’s going to be a massive challenge, but we can take huge confidence from what the likes of Sunderland and Leeds did last season,” he said. “I’m hoping I’ll be a huge help in the dressing room.”
