Michael Carrick confirms he will be without ‘sensational’ Red and one summer signing for Man Utd vs Ipswich

Michael Carrick has provided a squad update ahead of Manchester United’s first home outing of the season.

The Red Devils welcome newly-promoted Ipswich Town to Old Trafford on Sunday in a 4.30pm kick-off.

Carrick will be desperate to instantly bounce back from United’s dismal opening-day defeat to Hull City last weekend by overseeing a dominant and comfortable win over the Tractor Boys.

However, he will have to do so without the help of Amad Diallo, while Carrick’s latest recruit, Carlos Baleba, is also unavailable.

Amad was absent from the trip to Hull after suffering an ankle injury in training at Carrington before the campaign began.

There are hopes the 24-year-old, hailed as a ‘sensational’ talent by Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher, will be back to full fitness before the international break in September.

When might Baleba make his debut for United?

Meanwhile, Baleba is also nursing an ankle problem, having damaged his ligaments in a pre-season clash with Brighton and Hove Albion.

He passed his medical without any issues flagging up, and United still opted to shell out £65 million for him, so it’s clear that it isn’t expected to be a long-term setback.

Carrick told reporters this afternoon that the Cameroonian, whose move to the club was officially announced on Tuesday evening, should only miss ‘a couple of weeks’, meaning he could be in contention to make his debut around the time of the first Manchester derby on September 13.

Elsewhere, United are still waiting on the return of Matthijs de Ligt, who’s been sidelined since November 2025 with a back injury.

Manuel Ugarte is likely to miss the bulk of 2026/2027 after undergoing surgery on his knee.
