Michael Carrick delivers rallying cry to fans ahead of first home game of season

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has fired a blood-pumping message to supporters ahead of the first home game of the campaign.
Must-win game
United are set to welcome Ipswich Town at Old Trafford later on Sunday, in just their second game of the 2026/27 season.
Last weekend’s unexpected loss to newly-promoted Hull City served as a stark reality check for Carrick and his squad.
Hull were markedly the stronger side, excelling in both intensity and commitment. United trailed in comparison and were ultimately deserving of their 2-0 defeat.
Carrick firmly rebutted suggestions that United players lacked desire, although he admitted that the performance left much to be desired. Ahead of Ipswich, Carrick fired up the fans with a rousing message.
Carrick’s message
The United head coach wrote, “Welcome back for our first home game of the new Premier League season. As a player, that first glimpse of a full Old Trafford after a summer away would always make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.”
“The excitement of returning home, the passion from the Stretford End as we walk out into a sea of red, the memories of lifting trophies and celebrating late winners, and the privilege of knowing just how much Manchester United means to so many people.”
“It’s a feeling that is hard to put into words, but once you’ve experienced it, it stays with you forever. I cannot wait to lead our special football club at Old Trafford once again.”
He added, “Of course, we were really frustrated with the result against Hull City. We have taken the lessons from the game, had a strong week in training and now it’s all about focusing on today’s challenge as we welcome Gary O’Neil’s Ipswich Town side.”
“There is a great spirit within our squad, with the new signings adding further strength and depth to the group as we continue to make progress towards our long-term ambitions. The connection between you and the players was a massive part of our run of results here last season.”
“Everyone knows how strong Manchester United is when we’re all together. We cannot wait to fight to achieve the success that your incredible support deserves.”
