Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa , with three crucial reasons seeing them beat Arsenal to his signature. News emerged this weekend that Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign the England international this summer, beating the Gunners in the process.

As reported on Saturday, a £117m verbal agreement has been reached between Chelsea and Villa for Rogers to complete a permanent move to Stamford Bridge. The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal throughout the summer transfer window, but the Gunners are yet to make an offer in a similar region to Chelsea’s and look set to be beaten by their Premier League rivals to a deal.

Rogers has featured for England at this summer's World Cup, playing his part as the Three Lions reached the semi-final and clinched third place by defeating France. Fresh details have now emerged regarding Rogers' future, providing insight on what Chelsea said to persuade the 23-year-old to put pen to paper with the Blues.

The Athletic have reported that one of the key factors behind Rogers' decision to opt for Chelsea is the vision and long-term project that has been presented to the versatile attacker. Another significant draw is new boss Xabi Alonso, who is currently preparing for his first season as Chelsea boss following his appointment at the start of the month.

It has also been reported by our sister title football.london that Chelsea have told Rogers they intend to deploy him as a left winger next season, a factor which has further persuaded the World Cup star to make the move to Stamford Bridge. Reports suggest Rogers is set to put pen to paper on a six-year deal to become a Chelsea player, with the contract potentially including the option of an additional 12 months.

Rogers is expected to undergo a medical ahead of completing his move to Chelsea imminently, with the transfer anticipated to be wrapped up shortly afterwards. Should the deal go through, Chelsea would beat their own club-record transfer fee, eclipsing the £107million shelled out to Benfica for Enzo Fernandez back in 2023.

Alonso faced the media at his inaugural press conference earlier this week, with the new Chelsea manager stating: "The way they have, not so long ago, played and competed on the highest level gave me assurance that the potential of the team was there, because of the quality of the players, because of the quality of the way they have played.

"So now it will be the work to carry on many of the things that they've done and to know that we come in a very competitive level, the Premier League , but that's the challenge.

"But I'm sure that with the commitment of everyone, with, for sure, hard work, that's a must, and with the quality on the decisions that we have to take, for sure, we will be there to enjoy a great season. That's what we want.

"We know that the success is a consequence of the good work, of the quality decisions, of the good culture that we want to build, and that's the beauty of such a complex but nice process with so many people involved.

"Always getting the best of everyone, and everyone is committed with the last goal that is being the best we can and giving our best.

"If we all share, day by day, that feeling, I think that we can be optimistic about the future. Tomorrow we start. Tomorrow is day one. We want to feel it. To feel that this is starting something exciting."
