Musiala collapses during Bayern Munich match as teammate forced into action to catch him

Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala had to be caught by teammate Ismael Saibari as he appeared to pass out during the team’s pre-season friendly. The German giants hosted RB Leipzig as they continue their preparations for the new season.

The match was played in 33-degree heat, which appeared to be too much for Musiala in the closing stages after coming on as a second-half substitute. The incident came in the moments after he effectively sealed the game for Bayern.

Just minutes after the goal, the forward started to appear disoriented. That was noticed by Saibari, who rushed to help his new teammate.

Both Saibari and Joshua Kimmich were able to catch Musiala before he fell to the ground, and slowly lowered him to the deck. Medics were on the scene to provide immediate treatment as teammates gathered around.

In good news, a thumbs up was given towards the bench from a medic. Musiala was then able to get up and walk off the pitch alongside members of the Bayern medical team as he was replaced by Bara Sapoko Ndiaye.

It was a dramatic introduction to Bayern Munich for Saibari, who made his debut for the club after completing a transfer from PSV Eindhoven earlier in the summer. The midfielder has joined up with Bayern after representing Morocco in this summer’s World Cup in North America.

Bayern came out as 3-1 winners, thanks to goals from Luis Diaz, Nathaniel Brown and Musiala, a goal which was assisted by Saibari.

Speaking in the mixed zone following the win, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl provided an update on Musiala, confirming: "The most important thing, he's doing well!"

Bayern also suffered two other injury worries throughout the game with full-back Konrad Laimer forced off after just 10 minutes. Centre-back Min-jae Kim was then replaced during the second-half hydration break.

Giving an update on Laimer, Eberl said: "Konny took a hit relatively early on, and his foot swelled up pretty quickly as well.

"That's why he was taken off as a precaution. It was already the case that he couldn't run anymore; he had to be supported. That was visible. He wasn't running smoothly at all. How long it will take, I really can't say today."
