Neville slams worst Man Utd display EVER after Fulham goal - 'Absolutely pathetic'

Gary Neville labelled Manchester United's start to the second half as "the worst 15 minutes I've ever seen" the club play. Fulham took the lead after half time in a goal strewn with errors by the Reds.

It began with Matheus Cunha being easily dispossessed by Calvin Bassey, who drove forward with the ball and forced a save out of Senne Lammens. The Reds goalkeeper was then caught in two minds after Lisandro Martinez tapped the ball back to him.

He seemingly could not decide whether to save the ball with his foot or with his hand and by the time he made up his mind, the ball was already in. After the goal was conceded, Neville tore into his former side while commentating for Sky Sports.

He said: “I’ve watched Manchester United since the age of five and that’s the worst 15 minutes I’ve ever seen them play. Absolutely pathetic. They have walked for 15 minutes and you get what you deserve in a football match.”

When the camera panned to Michael Carrick, Neville added: "Maybe there will be a reaction but I've never seen a lack of effort for 15-20 minutes like I have just seen there. What must he be thinking? He probably cannot believe what he has watched in that last 15 or 20 minutes. He's got to act now."

Neville most likely saw the goal coming as he was anything but impressed with how United started the second half. Before Martinez prodded the ball into his own net, Neville said: "It's a few minutes of the blue mannequins playing against the white mannequins and then it switches around, bizarre football match.

"They won't go anywhere with a lack of urgency like this. I don't know if it's fear, lack of complacency, they're just not working hard."

United did manage to get an equaliser through Matheus Cunha as the game headed towards the 90-minute mark. The Brazilian struck the ball from just outside the box and watched his effort deflect off David Affengruber and trickle past the wrong-footed Bernd Leno.

His fortuitous goal rescued the Reds from a third consecutive loss in all competitions. Carrick's side came into the match having lost to Manchester City last week and 3-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion in the League Cup.

After the match, former United ace Ashley Young tore into United, saying: "They were too slow. They were walking, they were jogging, there was not enough urgency in the game."
