‘New official bid’ from Tottenham for Cody Gakpo revealed as stunning ‘Plan B’ emerges

Tottenham are preparing to submit a ‘new official offer’ to sign Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo but they have a Premier League back-up plan, according to reports.

Spurs have already secured the signings of Andy Robertson, Martin Dubravka and Marcos Senesi on free transfers, while Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes all arrived in deals totalling £237m.

And widespread reports have revealed that Tottenham are now closing in on two more signings with Manchester City duo Savinho and Omar Marmoush set to join.

Tottenham were terrible in their first match of the Premier League season with four of their new signings starting for Roberto De Zerbi’s side in their 3-0 loss to Brentford.

Spurs are desperate for new attacking signings and now Italian journalist Nicolo Schira insists that Tottenham are ready to bid again for Liverpool winger Gakpo, while Chelsea’s Mykhaylo Mudryk is a back-up option.

Schira posted on X: ‘Excl. – #Tottenham are set to submit a new official bid to #Liverpool to try to close Cody #Gakpo’s signing. Agreement in principle between the dutch winger and #THFC for a contract until 2031. #Spurs’ Plan B is Mykhaylo #Mudryk (Chelsea). #transfers #LFC #CFC.’

Gakpo scored for Liverpool as they drew 2-2 against Newcastle United over the weekend but Fabrizio Romano insisted at the end of last week that a deal is very much on.

Giving an update on the current situation surrounding Gakpo, Romano said on his YouTube channel: “And then let me finish by telling you, don’t forget Cody Gakpo. Don’t forget Cody Gakpo, because Savinho is going to Tottenham today in London for medical tests and contract signing,.

“Omar Marmoush is expected to go to Tottenham as a centre striker, and he’s a target that is going to probably happen in the next days, as I told you.

“But I told you always, right winger, left winger, centre striker. This was what I told you about Tottenham.

“And for the left winger, the name remains Cody Gakpo.

“Tottenham are working on it. Tottenham are working on the player side. Player terms are not an issue.

“And then Tottenham remain absolutely on it, on the club side with Liverpool.

“So Gakpo, Liverpool could be over in the next days if the total fee can be agreed. Watch out for that one until the end.”

Liverpool ‘need to resist’ Gakpo sale to Tottenham

The Athletic‘s James Pearce insists that Liverpool “need to resist any temptation to cash in on” the Netherlands international after his performance at St James’ Park.

Pearce wrote: ‘Even if [Liverpool] get Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola on board, they need to resist any temptation to cash in on Cody Gakpo, who has been pursued by Tottenham Hotspur.

‘Gakpo, who scored their first equaliser at St James’ Park with a clinical 20-yarder, provides the added value of being able to operate through the middle as well as off the left, so the Dutchman can deputise for Isak when required.’

The Liverpool Echo‘s Ian Doyle agreed, he wrote: ‘Cody Gakpo was easily Liverpool’s most potent attacker here and looks anything but a player who would welcome a move away. Gakpo surely cannot be sold.’
