Nicky Hayen puts 3 Burnley FC players up for sale

Burnley are looking to offload multiple players in the final days of the transfer window

Burnley have earned just one point from their opening two league fixtures so far this season, and there may be some player outgoings to cut down the current wage bill at Turf Moor before the transfer window shuts next week.

A 3-1 defeat to West Brom on Sunday ensured that the Clarets have failed to win either of their first two games.

Nicky Hayen’s side had taken the lead in the early stages due to an own goal by Callum Styles, but were undone by Harry Whitwell and a brace from Isaac Price.

The Lancashire outfit still have one week remaining in the transfer market to try and improve the squad for a potential promotion push this season.

The window is set to close on September 1, and Burnley could yet add some fresh faces between now and then.

But there could yet still be departures from Turf Moor as well, in what could be a busy final few days of the summer, with Burnley Express reporting these three names could all be sold...

Hjalmar Ekdal

Hjalmar Ekdal made 19 appearances for Burnley in the Premier League last season, including 17 starts, but he hasn’t played since a 3-1 loss to Leeds United last May.

The defender was not part of the matchday squad in either of their opening Championship fixtures, and has fallen down the pecking order under Hayen, especially with the additions of Anel Ahmedhodzic and Max Alleyne making him further out of favour.

The Swede has struggled for game time for much of his time at Turf Moor, making a total of 17 league appearances in his two other campaigns with the club.

Ekdal also spent a season out on loan with Eredivisie side Groningen following Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League in 2024.

And now it’s being reported that the Clarets are open to offers for the 27-year-old in the final week of the transfer window.

Lyle Foster

Lyle Foster has also not featured in the matchday squad for either of Burnley’s opening two league fixtures this season.

The forward made 26 appearances in the Premier League last year, including 15 starts, but he scored on just three occasions.

The South African has struggled for form and consistent game time since joining the club during 2022/23.

And now his time at Turf Moor could come to an end, with Hayen effectively putting the striker up for sale in the final week of the transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether the forward will generate any transfer interest, but Burnley will be keen to see him depart in order to make room in the squad for further additions.

Andreas Hountondji

Andreas Houtondji was an unused substitute in Burnley’s 2-2 draw against West Ham in the opening round of Championship fixtures this season.

The 24-year-old has never been particularly in favour at Turf Moor since his £3.4m transfer from Caen in 2024, making nine league appearances in 2024/25 before going out on loan to St Pauli last season.

And now his time with the Lancashire outfit could be coming to an end, with the Clarets looking to offload the Benin international striker.

Burnley have until September 1 to find potential suitors, as the club looks to shed players from their wage bill, and to free up funds for potential signings in the final days of the market.
