Paul Scholes given six-month driving ban after speeding cases

Paul Scholes has been ordered to pay £1,472 after two speeding-related cases were concluded on 12 and 13 August. The 51-year-old is a former Manchester United and England midfielder.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the matters were dealt with in private under the Single Justice Procedure. He did not enter pleas and was convicted in his absence.

At about 11.30pm on 3 March, a Range Rover registered to Scholes was recorded at 37mph in a 30mph zone on the A649 Halifax Road near Cleckheaton. He replied to a notice of intended prosecution confirming he was the driver. A speed awareness course was not available because existing points left him liable for an automatic ban.

On 12 August at Bradford Magistrates’ Court, he received a six-month disqualification, a £220 fine, £120 costs and an £88 victim surcharge.

In a separate case, a Mercedes in his name was clocked at 49mph in a 30mph zone on the A670 Mossley Road near Ashton-under-Lyne at 11.10am on 14 November last year. Two letters were sent to his home seeking driver details and no reply was received. The speeding allegation was later dropped, with prosecution for failing to respond continuing.

On 13 August at Manchester Magistrates’ Court, he was fined £660, given six penalty points, ordered to pay £120 costs and a £264 surcharge.
