Police end Bielik probe but FA charge Cardiff star after Portsmouth fan clash

Cardiff City star Krystian Bielik has been charged with misconduct by the FA after escaping any action from the police for his involvement in an incident with a Portsmouth fan.

Bielik clashed with a Pompey supporter while going to collect the ball for a throw-in during a 2-0 defeat at Fratton Park on September 5. Footage which went viral on social media appeared to show the 28-year-old grabbing the youngster, who had slapped him, by the throat.

The fan was ejected from the stadium following the incident midway through the second half and play was briefly halted by the referee, who did not take action against Bielik.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary later launched an investigation into an alleged common assault. But an apology from the former Arsenal defender has seen the case dropped.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: "Following an incident involving a Portsmouth FC supporter and a Cardiff player at Fratton Park on 5 September 2026, we have now concluded our investigation.

"After speaking with the complainant and reviewing all available evidence, the matter has been resolved by way of an out-of-court disposal, agreed by all parties involved.

"As part of this resolution, an apology has been provided by the player. The matter is now considered closed, and no further action will be taken in relation to this incident."

However, the ex-Poland international is not in the clear over the incident, with the FA now charging him with misconduct following the conclusion of the police's investigation.

The FA said in a statement: "Cardiff City's Krystian Bielik has been charged with misconduct following the EFL Championship game against Portsmouth on 5 September. It's alleged that the player acted in an improper manner around the 71st minute of the match.

"Krystian Bielik has until 25 September to provide a response."

In a statement at the time, Cardiff said: "We are satisfied with the way that match officials dealt with the situation during the game, having been in full view of it. Player protection will always be of paramount importance to us."

Bielik joined the Bluebirds in the summer transfer window from West Brom and has made six appearances for Brian Barry-Murphy's side. Cardiff have made a slow start to their Championship campaign and sit 21st in the table, with just one win from the opening eight games.
