Gameweek eight of the Premier League is done and dusted, so let’s take a look at all the action across England’s top flight, which saw Arsenal and Manchester City go level on points at top of the league.

Ipswich 1-1 Nottingham Forest

The Premier League weekend got up and running at Portman Road on Friday night, where two first-half goals saw the spoils shared between Ipswich and Forest.

Forest took an early lead through Neco Williams, who streamed on to Daniel Muñoz’s cross to sweep home a first-time finish in the 13th minute. However, the Tractor Boys levelled before half-time when Julio Enciso made the most of a defensive mix-up before keeping his cool to slot the ball past Mats Sels in the Forest goal.

The visitors had ample opportunity to take home all three points in the second half, but ultimately failed to make them count, meaning the game ended in a draw.

Aston Villa 2-1 Manchester City

Aston Villa brought Manchester City’s perfect start to the league season to an end on Saturday lunchtime, with a superb performance that saw them run out 2-1 winners at Villa Park.

Villa opened the scoring when John McGinn and Nicolas Jackson combined to capitalise on a defensive error from Marc Guéhi after five minutes. Erling Haaland levelled early in the second half when he rose highest to meet Iliman Ndiaye’s cross and head home.

However, Jackson popped up again on the hour mark when his shot squeezed under Gianluigi Donnarumma, eventually earning Villa all three points and a sixth win in their last seven games for Unai Emer’s side.

Asenal 2-0 Everton

Arsenal drew level on points with Manchester City at top of the league in one of two 3pm kick-offs, with a comfortable win over Everton at the Emirates.

Ezri Konsa opened the scoring early in the day, when he fired home from close range after a corner caused chaos in the Everton box. Jordan Pickford flapped at the delivery before Konsa burst through the bodies to find the bottom corner.

The second came from Gabriel, who lept to meet a lovely ball from Ben White and headed home, rounding off a lovely team move.

Coventry 0-1 Fulham

Fulham were the other 3pm kick-off and they made it back-to-back 1-0 wins thanks to Oscar Bobb’s late strike at the CBS Arena.

Bobb’s fine finish saw him drive into the box before firing across goal into the bottom corner to break the deadlock. The Cottagers’ defence was testd throughout the afternoon, but a back four of Antonee Robinson, Calvin Bassey, David Affengruber and Timothy Castagne held strong throughout, along with the help of two crucial saves from Bernd Leno.

Chelsea 0-2 Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur picked up their first win at Stamford Bridge since April 2018 on Saturday evening, as they beat an out of sorts Chelsea 2-0.

It took until the 77th minute for the deadlock to be broken, and it wasn’t even an Spurs player who put the ball in the net. Instead, it was Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, who punched the ball into his own goal having misjudged the flight of a corner.

It went from bad to worse for Chelsea when Cole Palmer was shown a second yellow card, and subsequently a red, with 10 minutes left to play. Spurs’ second came late in the day when Mathys Tel broke free down the left flank and fired past Penders to secure a vital win for his side.

Crystal Palace 0-2 Newcastle

Pressure continued to build on Pierre Sage at Selhurst Park, with his side failing to make their chances count in a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

Palace were by far the more creative of the two teams, registering an xG of 1.69, but poor finishing saw them only manage four shots on target, with none of them finding the back of the net.

It was quite the opposite for the Magpies, who stunned Palace with a quickfire double when William Osula and Harvey Barnes got the goals just nine minutes apart.

Liverpool 2-0 Brighton

Similiarly to Crystal Palace, it was a story of missed chances and misfortune for Brighton as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Seagulls’ skipper, Pascal Gros was unfortunate in turning the ball into his own net when he tried to block a shot from Florian Wirtz in the 17th minute, and things quickly got worse for his side when Alexander Isak doubled the Reds’ advantage just four minute later, assisted by Liverpool’s marquee Summer signing, Bradley Barcola.

Brighton took on 17 shots, but only managed to keep one of them on target, a frustrating one to take for them but they can still be more than happy with their start to the season.

Manchester United 0-3 Bournemouth

Much like Sage, the pressure is continuing to build on Michael Carrick as his side made it eight games without a win in all compeitions, and three losses in their last five.

Credit to Bournemouth, they were superb value for their win and were comfortable at half-time thanks to goals from Rayan and Marcus Tavernier before a clever finish from Evanilson in the 71st minute wrapped up the win for them.

The Red Devils’ torrid start continues as they now drop to 16th, having won just one of their opening eight league games.

Hull 1-1 Brentford

Hull’s first-hslf penalty was enough to see them earn a point at home to Brentford, who drew level in the second half when Dango Outarra stabbed the ball home from close range.

It was Oli McBurnie who found the net from the spot for the Tigers.

Sunderland 0-0 Leeds

The final game of the weekend saw Sunderland and Leeds play out an entertaining 0-0 draw in the North East.

James Trafford was the star of the show, keeping out plenty of Sunderland efforts and earning his side a good point on the road. The Black Cats’ best chance of the evening fell to Brian Brobbey in the 26th minute, but the Dutchman could only find Trafford with his shot.

The 94th minute almost saw Leeds find a winner, when Sean Longstaff managed to get a shot away in the area, but it was well saved by Robin Roefs.
