Manchester United Still Monitoring Joaquin Seys in Left-Back Search

Manchester United continue to keep a close eye on Joaquin Seys as INEOS assess the club’s next move at left-back, according to TeamTalk. The Club Brugge defender has stayed firmly in the thinking at Old Trafford after a run of encouraging reports from scouts and recruitment staff.

The 21-year-old was already known to be on United’s shortlist during the previous search for support and competition for Luke Shaw. At that stage, the priority options were different, but circumstances changed quickly. As the original report states, “United’s preferred targets were Nathaniel Brown and then Lewis Hall, but neither deal materialised.” Brown joined Bayern Munich, while Hall remained at Newcastle United and later signed a new deal.

That sequence pushed United towards other profiles, and Seys clearly made an impression. TeamTalk reports that “Seys was one player who particularly appealed to Jason Wilcox’s recruitment team,” which is a notable detail given the importance now placed on data, live checks and long-term fit in United’s recruitment process.

What stands out here is that the interest appears active rather than historic. The report says, “We understand that United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is an admirer of the 21-year-old and continues to appreciate his qualities.” That wording matters. It suggests Seys has not simply been filed away as a fallback name, he remains under genuine consideration.

Further evidence came with United scouts attending Club Brugge’s latest meeting with Genk. It proved a useful assignment. Brugge won 3-0, and Seys “produced an outstanding performance, helping his side keep a clean sheet while also creating two of their goals.” For a club seeking balance from full-back areas, that is exactly the sort of display likely to strengthen internal support.

Left-back recruitment still feels like a live issue

There is logic to the admiration. Seys appears to offer the blend modern top clubs want, energy in advanced areas, recovery pace, and enough defensive assurance to handle difficult moments. TeamTalk adds that “the Belgian offering the attacking qualities and defensive reliability the club have been looking for in the left-back position.”

United are understood to be continuing their checks, and “Seys is still firmly on their radar.” That does not automatically mean a deal is imminent, but it does indicate the position remains under review as they consider a longer-term solution alongside Shaw.

Our View

From a Manchester United perspective, this feels like a sensible line of enquiry. Seys might not yet be a headline name, but that should not count against him. Supporters have watched too many windows drift by with obvious squad issues left unresolved, and left-back has been one of them. If the club have identified a younger player with upside, that is better than another short-term patch.

The most encouraging part of this report is the consistency. United are not being linked on the back of one good game alone. He has been watched before, remained under observation, and then delivered again in a match where scouts were present. That is usually a healthier recruitment sign than a sudden rush built on hype.

There is also a wider point here. If INEOS want a more coherent squad build, they need to stack smart additions in problem positions before they become urgent. Seys sounds like a player with development ahead of him, but also someone already producing at a decent level. For United, that can be a sweet spot in the market.

Fans will still want proven quality, naturally, and there may be debate over whether Seys is ready for the pressure of Old Trafford. But if Wilcox, Vivell and the scouting department all see something, this is the type of move worth exploring seriously. United need reliability, availability and competition on that side, and this report suggests the club know it.
