Revealed: Marcus Rashford has been undergoing regular treatment all season in bid to beat injury that has affected performances for Man United

Marcus Rashford is having running repairs to be available for Manchester United this season as the England star continues to struggle with the hip injury that has dogged him since the World Cup.

Rashford has started six of United's nine games this season having returned to Old Trafford in the summer following loan spells at Barcelona and Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old has yet to score or make an assist, and failed to convert a volley in front of goal during Tuesday's Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

However, sources say that Rashford has been undergoing regular treatment all season to be available for head coach Michael Carrick, and it is inevitable that the problem has impacted his performances.

It remains to be seen if Rashford – who withdrew from England's recent Nations League games – starts against Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday with Matheus Cunha able to revert to the left flank after Amad Diallo's return from injury on the right freed up Bryan Mbeumo to play through the middle.

'Marcus has done a lot of good things,' said Carrick. 'He obviously had a slight injury where he pulled out with England, and he's had to manage that a little bit.

'He's not quite getting that little bit of a break, putting himself in good positions and having some opportunities. He had one the other night maybe that he felt he probably could have done better with, but he's in there to make a difference.

'He keeps doing the right things, and you get the rewards in the end. So as long as he keeps doing that, he'll be okay.'

Bruno Fernandes has also been carrying an injury that forced him to sit out one of Portugal's games during the international break and appears to have affected his recent performances for United, although Carrick said that was not the reason his captain came off in the 80th minute in Madrid.

'He's been carrying some sort of issue, but he's pretty much over that now, to be honest, and he'll be back to his best,' added the United boss.

'A lot of players do carry them and it goes under the radar. People just think everyone's 100 per cent fully fit and it's probably not very often the case.

'We've got to share the load in all sorts of different ways: that's working, quality-wise, performing, being available.

'It's not an individual thing. When it's all good, it's not always just Bruno. Certainly if it's not so good, it's not all Bruno. He's a fantastic footballer, and he has a big impact on our group.

'Just because he may not be hitting the headlines or the highlights like he did last year doesn't mean that he can't, and that he won't, and I'm sure he'll do that pretty quickly.'
