Sesko Returns to Grass Training at Carrington Ahead of Season Opener
Benjamin Sesko has posted pictures of himself training on the grass at Carrington, giving United supporters an encouraging sign that the striker is closing in on a return from the knee injury that has kept him sidelined since May.
Sesko shared the images on social media on Thursday, showing him working through both fitness drills and ball work at United’s training base. The caption – a simple “getting there” – carries obvious significance given the questions over his availability heading into the new campaign.

How the Injury Happened
The 23-year-old has been out since the 3-2 victory over Liverpool in May, when former Reds defender Ibrahima Konate nudged him off the pitch and Sesko collided with the advertising boards. He had already been playing through discomfort before that collision forced Michael Carrick to substitute him.
With Champions League football already secured at that stage, United took the sensible decision not to risk Sesko for the remaining fixtures against Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton. His fitness had already been a talking point surrounding his commitments with Slovenia, making the conservative call all the more understandable.
After a break alongside the players not involved in the World Cup, Sesko returned to Carrington but has been following a separate rehabilitation programme rather than training with the group.
Zirkzee Filling In as Sesko Targets Season Opener
Sesko was absent as United faced Wrexham in Helsinki last weekend, with Joshua Zirkzee leading the line in his place. He has also been left out of Carrick’s travelling squad for Friday’s fixture against Rosenborg.

, and getting his first-choice striker through the door before competitive football begins will be a significant boost to those plans. The key takeaway is that he appears to be well on the road to recovery to be fully sharp for the opening Premier League fixture.
The images suggest that target is firmly within reach.
