Sunderland ‘pushing for’ Lyon winger Malick Fofana as alternative to Marseille’s Igor Paixão

Sunderland have turned to Lyon winger Malick Fofana as talks for Marseille’s Igor Paixão stall, Foot Mercato reports.

Régis Le Bris is seeking wide reinforcements for his Premier League squad, but progress with Marseille has been minimal.

Lyon are expected to sell Fofana, with AS Roma and Hull City also in the frame. The Tigers have made a €35m verbal offer, the report said.

Both Marseille and Lyon need sales before the end of the summer window after missing out on the Champions League.

The report also notes Marseille sporting director Grégory Lorenzi fears there may be neither the time nor funds to replace Paixão adequately.
