Sunderland's 2025/26 attendances compared to Premier League rivals ahead of Fulham opener

Sunderland recorded the Premier League’s ninth-highest average attendance in 2025/26, drawing 46,828 to the Stadium of Light, according to Sunderland Echo. They host Fulham in their first home match of 2026/27 this weekend.

They opened the new campaign with a 2-1 defeat at newly promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday, former Sunderland winger Jack Clarke hitting a late winner for the Tractor Boys. The Fulham clash is the first competitive outing at the Stadium of Light since the final day win against Chelsea ensured Europa League football will be staged there for the first time in the club’s history this season.

A sell-out crowd is sure to be on hand again. Only eight clubs drew more last season, led by Manchester United with 73,975, followed by West Ham with 62,455 and Tottenham with 61,006, while Liverpool and Arsenal also exceeded 60,000.

Manchester City averaged 52,640, with Newcastle United on 52,161 and Everton on 52,132. Fulham, Sunderland’s visitors, were 18th with 27,203.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa posted 41,977, Chelsea 39,602, and Leeds United 36,695, while Bournemouth had the smallest average with 11,175. Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City were then in the Championship, averaging 30,290, 28,303 and 21,535 respectively.
