Jesus de Miguel has died after a collision during Tenerife’s match against Andorra on Monday evening.

The 30-year-old suffered head and chest injuries following a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who was sent off the challenge near the halfway line.

Owono had sprinted from his goal to clear a long ball when his knee collided with De Miguel’s chest.

De Miguel rolled on the floor immediately after impact but was then motionless on his back as several players urgently signalled for medical help.

The referee showed Owono a red card before the match was abandoned.

An initial statement from Tenerife on Monday night said that De Miguel was ‘stable’ in hospital.
