The 11 transfers Arsenal missed out on this summer and how they're getting on

Arsenal were linked with a barrage of players over the summer, with some of those rumoured targets enjoying success elsewhere, while others have failed to flourish

Arsenal's summer transfer window saw them linked with a long list of stars who failed to make the move to the Emirates Stadium. After winning their first Premier League title in more than two decades, there was no shortage of elite talent on the Gunners' radar.

After a slow start off the line, Mikel Arteta ultimately improved his squad with the signings of Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis for around £160million. Piero Hincapie also joined the club on permanent terms after lifting league silverware on loan last season.

Arsenal could have easily spent another couple of hundred million if the right targets had given the green light to the Gunners. Mirror Football takes a deeper dive into some of those would-be signings and how they're progressing in the current campaign.

Julian Alvarez

Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez was the hottest ticket on the agenda linked with Arsenal this summer. It became apparent Arteta wanted a new striker to compete with Viktor Gyokeres, though the north Londoners ultimately failed to add a new name up top.

Alvarez only had eyes for Barcelona and begrudgingly accepted he'd be kept at Atleti when that move was ruled out. Diego Simeone has started his Argentinian compatriot just once in four appearances across all competitions, with Alvarez yet to score a goal thus far.

Bradley Barcola

With Leandro Trossard heading for the Emirates exit and Gabriel Martinelli eventually joining him, additions on the left wing were always likely for Arsenal. And even after the signing of Tzolis from Club Brugge, links with Bradley Barcola seemed to hold serious weight.

Liverpool always looked like the favourites for the former PSG star's signature, however, and won out in the end. The £123m man is still bedding in under Andoni Iraola and is yet to record a goal contribution in five outings for the Reds, but has shown the makings of a potential talisman.

Victor Osimhen

Regarding Arsenal's aforementioned striker search, Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen was another name linked to fill that hole. Despite remaining in Istanbul, Osimhen hasn't looked like a player perturbed in the slightest after scoring six goals and recording two assists in only four games this term.

Jack Hinshelwood

Arsenal's dealings with Brighton have become more regular in recent years, and Jack Hinshelwood was the latest Seagull to appear on their radar this summer. The 21-year-old midfielder scored twice in an opening-weekend annihilation of Aston Villa but has since missed Brighton's last six games through injury.

Nico Williams

A name Arsenal fans have become well-acquainted with in recent transfer windows, Nico Williams was once again linked this summer. The Athletic Club winger added a World Cup to his trophy cabinet over the summer, where he played a key role in Ferran Torres' decider in the final.

As with previous windows, however, the interest came to nothing, as Williams remained in Bilbao. After a brief spell making his way back into the XI at the season's start, the 24-year-old has played a part in Athletic's improving form despite just one goal in six games.

Yan Diomande

Yet another winger who was heavily linked with both Liverpool and Arsenal this summer, Yan Diomande ultimately traded TB Leipzig for Real Madrid. However, it's one deal the Gunners may be glad to have swerved.

The 19-year-old has started just twice in eight games under Jose Mourinho and has a single assist to show for his efforts. That being said, his work out wide has been valuable to Real's ball progression and hints at greater things to come.

Morgan Rogers

There was talk of Arsenal breaking the British transfer record to sign Morgan Rogers from Villa and bring him to London. And head to the capital he did, except to play for Chelsea rather than Arteta's side.

The £117m investment has worked out brilliantly for the Blues thus far. Rogers has slotted straight into Xabi Alonso's side and registered seven goal contributions (three goals, four assists) in as many outings.

Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford's links with Arsenal never truly seemed to have a strong enough foundation to be considered all that genuine. And despite his success at Barcelona last season, Arteta may be content not to have signed the United forward, who has fluffed chances back at Old Trafford and failed to rediscover his Barca form.

Lutsharel Geertruida

Tipped as an alternative to Konsa, Lutsharel Geertruida ticked certain boxes for Arsenal, given his ability to play both in central defence and at right-back. In the end, however, many will agree that the Gunners landed the superior signing.

Not that Geertruida is letting the failed move get in the way of his performances after joining PSV on a temporary basis. And he could become part of a title-winning team after helping secure four wins from five, though PSV are still waiting on a first clean sheet of the campaign.

Joaquin Seys

Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys was being mooted for a potential move to London amid rumours of Manchester United's interest in the player. There may be a revival of those rumours later down the line, too, after the Belgian has racked up a seriously impressive four assists in seven league games out of defence.

Antonio Nusa

The other Leipzig winger associated with Arsenal, Antonio Nusa, whose name arose following a fine World Cup campaign for Norway. The 21-year-old is getting on just fine without the switch, however, and has five goal contributions (three goals, two assists) in as many domestic games this season.
