Thomas Tuchel delivers England injury update amid Arsenal worry: 'Not sure'

Ezri Konsa and Nico O’Reilly both missed training before Three Lions flew to Czech Republic

Thomas Tuchel says he is still “not sure” whether Ezri Konsa or Nico O’Reilly will be fit to play for England against the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

England are in Prague for their second Nations League match and hoping for a reaction after they lost 3-2 to world champions Spain at Wembley on Saturday.

Konsa and O’Reilly were the only members of England’s 24-man squad who did not take part in the group training session at Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground on Monday ahead of their afternoon flight to the Czech capital.

The Arsenal and Manchester City defenders were both following individualised training programmes instead.

Asked whether either will be available at the Fortuna Arena on Tuesday, Tuchel said on Monday evening: “I’m not sure yet. They missed training today — that’s what you saw.

Ezri Konsa is carrying a “minor issue”

“It was because of minor issues. But there are still issues.”

The England head coach added: “Today in the morning we had a light training for the guys who started the game.

“The very last checks will be made tomorrow morning. If the doctors and physios give thumbs up then we’re good to go.

“One day longer would really make a difference. I feel the players who were on the pitch today all really want to play and are up for it.”

Despite defeat to Spain being the worst possible start to a league phase of the Nations League that only comprises six matches, Tuchel believes it is not a “must-win”.

“It is a bit early for ‘must-win’,” he said. “It is a bit early in the group for ‘must-win’.

“We respect the quality of the opposition. I feel I always need a result, no matter where. Especially after defeat, even if this is the way to go forward, even then you just need it for yourself, and to show straight away a reaction. The match tomorrow has the highest priority.”
