Tottenham predicted XI vs Charlton: Savio set for debut as Spurs look to bounce back

Tottenham Hotspur welcome Charlton Athletic to North London on Wednesday night, looking to put their disastrous Premier League opener behind them.

Spurs were thrashed 3-0 on Saturday, producing a flat, disjointed display that left Roberto De Zerbi admitting his expensively assembled squad is not a team yet.

The Carabao Cup gives Spurs a chance to respond, and De Zerbi will rotate his side while still naming a strong enough XI to avoid another poor result.

Tottenham have plenty to prove after their miserable start to the campaign. The £350 million-plus summer rebuild has generated plenty of excitement.

Unfortunately, none of it showed against Brentford, as Spurs struggled for cohesion and offered little attacking threat.

Meanwhile, Charlton arrive in a confident mood.

The Addicks have won their opening two Championship games before beating Cheltenham Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Tottenham have dominated this fixture historically, winning their last five meetings with Charlton by an aggregate score of 16-4.

But De Zerbi will know his players cannot afford to underestimate opponents who have already shown they can punish complacency.

Tottenham will be desperate to restore some belief before they return to Premier League action this weekend.

The biggest question is around £85m signing Savio, who is now fully registered and eligible to make his Tottenham debut.

De Zerbi held his card close to his chest when asked whether the Brazilian will start or be introduced from the bench.

However, with James Maddison injured and Mohammed Kudus still unavailable, Spurs are desperately short of attacking options.

Maddison is expected to miss around two weeks after suffering a small shoulder fracture over the weekend, while Kudus continues to work his way back from a thigh injury.

Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons remain long-term absentees.

Thankfully, De Zerbi confirmed that Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro will be included in the matchday squad for the first time this season. Both should begin on the bench.

Dominic Solanke is available to start after returning from injury as a substitute in the last game.

Archie Gray could retain his place at right-back, while Lucas Bergvall, Rodrigo Bentancur and £85 million man Mateus Fernandes are all in contention to start.

Luca Williams-Barnett is also expected to be among the substitutes after impressing during pre-season.
