Manchester United and Arsenal monitor Alberto Costa

Manchester United and Arsenal are both keeping tabs on Porto right-back Alberto Costa, who has emerged as one of the more highly rated young defenders in Europe.

According to CaughtOffside, both Premier League clubs are monitoring the 22-year-old alongside Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, although no formal bids have been made. Costa joined Porto from Juventus in 2025 and made 47 appearances with eight assists in his first season.

Porto have Costa under contract until 2030, with a €65m (£55.6m) release clause. The Portuguese club are therefore in a strong negotiating position should interest develop into a formal approach.

United could view Costa as competition at right-back, while Arsenal are attracted by his versatility and ability to contribute in possession. His strong start to the season has further increased attention around the defender.

Erling Haaland decides to leave Man City if relegated

Erling Haaland does not intend to remain at Manchester City if the club are relegated from the Premier League, with Arsenal among the sides linked with a move.

According to Football365, Arsenal have made contact with Haaland’s camp as they assess their striker options for 2027. However, reports elsewhere have claimed the Gunners have not made an approach.

City are said to have been found guilty of 114 financial-rule breaches, with the club expected to appeal once their punishment is confirmed. A severe points deduction or relegation has been discussed, although no final sanction has been announced.

Haaland is under contract until 2034 and has no relegation release clause, meaning any departure would still require a significant fee for City.

Arsenal 'scout Calafiori upgrade'

Arsenal have sent scouts to keep an eye on Porto’s Alberto Costa, per reports from Caught Offside.

They join a number of clubs, including Manchester United, in scouting the 22-year-old, signed from Juventus for €15m (£12.8m) last year. His contract contains a €65m (£55.7m) release clause.

Arsenal’s interest, though, is at a very nascent stage, which has not progressed beyond scouting. Meanwhile, the player, tipped as a replacement for Riccardo Calafiori, is playing regularly for Porto.
