Why Mainoo, Yoro and top talent are not in Man Utd's Premier League squad

Manchester United have confirmed their squad list for the Premier League this season, with several notable stars not included. United have three points from their opening two games and are currently preparing for an away trip to face Everton this weekend in their next fixture.

The Red Devils had the chance to name a 25-man squad for the Premier League this season after the summer transfer window closed on Tuesday.

However, United have named a squad of just 23 players, with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro not included.

Despite the duo not being included, both Mainoo and Yoro will still be able to feature for United in the Premier League this term due to being classed as Under-21 players.

Rules state that players born on or after January 1, 2005, do not need to be registered in a Premier League squad, meaning Mainoo and Yoro can be left out and still be able to feature in the top flight this term.

United could have registered up to 25 players on their squad list, yet only 23 have been put forward.

Manuel Ugarte is included on the list despite picking up an injury during the World Cup that could rule him out until next year.

United will have the chance to modify their squad list once the January transfer window closes.

There was also no place for JJ Gabriel in the 23-man squad named by United for the Premier League this season.

As is the case with Mainoo and Yoro, due to Gabriel being classed as an Under-21 player, the Red Devils do not need to name the teenager in the squad to be able to call upon him this term.

Gabriel made his debut for United’s Under-21s on Monday, scoring once and providing two assists in a 5-0 victory over Ipswich, with Michael Carrick praising the talented teenager.

"I thought the boys played ever so well, actually," said Carrick. "Really good team, really strong team that we had, and you could see that the quality. I really enjoyed the game.

"Really pleased with the boys, the way they went about it. The quality, the attitude, everything about the game was really good. So, really encouraged by that.

"JJ is one of the boys. He's obviously got a really big talent. He's trained with us quite a bit. He's getting experience all the time. He's physically adapting to each step that he makes, and just continuing his development."
