Wolves star Tolu Arokodare has hit out at reports that he refused to leave the club’s training ground, forcing their pre-season preparations to be cancelled. It was suggested that the Nigerian frontman refused to leave the pitch after being told to leave the playing surface.

He had reportedly been asked not to train with the rest of the squad. Further security was then deployed the following day to ensure he was not able to enter.

Arokodare, 25, has now spoken out and claimed that he didn’t actually do anything wrong but wanting to train.

Taking to social media, he said: “I was very surprised and disappointed to see the media reports today, many of which are inaccurate. Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards.

"My commitment has always been to prepare myself as well as possible so that I can contribute to my team-mates and the club whenever I am called upon.

"I remain under contract with Wolves , and my only intention is to fulfil my responsibilities professionally by training, doing my job, and contributing to the team in accordance with that contract."

Arokodare joined Wolves last summer in a £23.4m move from Belgian side Genk. But he struggled to adapt to the demands of Premier League football, with just three goals in 33 appearances, as the club slipped in the Championship.

Wolves took on Maidenhead in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday but Arokodare was not involved in any capacity. A number of clubs are already interested in signing him, with his future now up in the air.

Fiorentina were initially interested but have now used up all of their assigned non-EU spots within their squad so have been forced to abandon a move. That has seen Serie A rivals Genoa express an interest in the forward, while Dutch giants Ajax are keeping tabs on developments.

Wolves have already bid farewell to a number of first-team stars ahead of their first season back in the Championship. Joao Gomes completed a £35m move to Aston Villa last week, while Matt Doherty has departed for second-tier rivals Sheffield United.

Wolves have also made a few signings, with Raul Jimenez and Ladislav Krejci rejoining the club, while Rafiki Said and Kieran Trippier have also penned deals with the Black Country side.
