Manchester United
have completed the signing of Youri Tielemans from
Aston Villa
. Tielemans emerged as a target for United on Monday as the Red Devils swooped in to try and bring the
Belgium
international to Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick's side
agreed to pay the £35million release clause in Tielemans’ contract
, with the 29-year-old becoming the second signing of the summer,
following the arrival of Andrey Santos
. The Red Devils also recently agreed a deal to sign the
Chelsea
ace after a £50million package was finalised.
United have been forced to enter the market for new midfielders following
the departure of Casemiro
, who left Old Trafford at the end of last month as a free agent following the expiration of his contract, and
the knee injury Manuel Ugarte suffered at the World Cup
.
Tielemans becomes the second new addition to Carrick’s squad this summer. After the move was confirmed, Tielemans told the official United website: "It’s hard to describe just how proud I am to join Manchester United.
"Signing for such a special club feels incredible, it is the culmination of years of dedication since I first fell in love with football. I have had the privilege of experiencing success in the game and it has only increased my determination to achieve more.
"The ambition from everyone at the club is extremely clear; we are all determined to push for the biggest trophies over the coming years.”

The 29-year-old was recently with the Belgium squad for this summer’s World Cup, where he scored two goals as he helped his country reach the quarter-final of the tournament.
Now that Tielemans has been signed, attention will now turn towards what other business United could conduct before the transfer window draws to a close. Atalanta star Ederson continues to be linked with a move to United and the Brazilian’s future remains uncertain after the Red Devils completed the signings of Santos and Tielemans.

Jason Wilcox, director of football for the club, also said: “Youri has consistently been one of the most outstanding midfielders in the
Premier League
throughout the past seven years. He has all of the technical qualities, as well as the ambition and mentality, to thrive at Manchester United.
“Youri’s consistency is exceptional, and he will add further composure, creativity and leadership to our squad. We are delighted to welcome a player of his influence and experience, both on the pitch and within the dressing room, as we continue to build a team ready to challenge for the biggest honours."
An initial fee worth £35million plus a further £3.8million was agreed between both clubs, and it has been reported that the move is no longer expected to be completed, but could be revisited towards the end of the transfer window. However, they are still expected to sign a new midfielder.

Aurelien Tchouameni of
France
and
Real Madrid
continues to be a target. England international and
Bournemouth
ace Alex Scott has also been linked, but the Cherries are understood to be unwilling to sell the ex-Bristol City ace.
United will now continue their preparations for the start of the new campaign, which will see them travel to the MKM Stadium to face newly-promoted
Hull City
on August 22.
