Marcos Senesi’s partner showed fans the thoughtful collection Messi arranged for every member of the squad

Lionel Messi may have left the 2026 World Cup without the ending he wanted, but Argentina’s captain ensured his teammates carried home something that reflected the bond and traditions behind their journey.

Kelci-Rose Bowers, the partner of Argentina defender Marcos Senesi, revealed that every member of Lionel Scaloni’s squad received a personalized mate collection from Messi during the tournament.

The thoughtful package included a custom bag displaying each player’s name, a gold-colored Stanley flask and the equipment needed to prepare one of South America’s most recognizable drinks.

Showing Senesi’s gift on social media, Bowers opened a caramel-colored bag featuring the Argentina badge, the World Cup logo and light blue detailing.

“This is a personalized bag that Marcos got from the camp,” Bowers explained.

Inside, she found a Stanley flask carrying Messi’s logo, a separate drinking cup, a bombilla straw and herbs used to make mate. The defender had apparently placed the collection in her care after Argentina’s campaign ended.

“Marcos gave me it to keep safe and take back to Miami,” she said.

Gift rooted in Argentina’s dressing-room culture

Mate is far more than an ordinary drink inside the Argentina camp. Players are regularly photographed carrying their own sets into training grounds, hotels and stadiums, while the process of preparing and sharing it has become part of the national team’s daily routine.

That tradition gave Messi’s gift a personal meaning that went beyond its financial value. Rather than selecting a conventional luxury item, the captain chose something closely connected to the habits and relationships that have helped shape Argentina’s successful era under Scaloni.

Bowers, a former footballer who represented England at youth level and met Senesi during their time at Bournemouth, appeared delighted to have been entrusted with the keepsake.

She called it a “pretty cool gift” and added that it was “pretty cool that I’ve got it.”

The gesture continued Messi’s history of rewarding his Argentina teammates. After their 2022 World Cup triumph in Qatar, he reportedly commissioned 35 personalized gold iPhones for the players and staff, with the collection said to have cost more than $200,000.

Reminder of Argentina’s painful final defeat

Senesi was a late addition to Argentina’s 2026 squad after Leonardo Balerdi suffered an injury. He made his World Cup debut in the 3-1 group-stage victory over Jordan and received another opportunity during the knockout rounds.

Argentina eventually reached the final in New Jersey, where its bid to become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to retain the World Cup ended against Spain. Ferran Torres’ extra-time goal secured a 1-0 victory for the European champions on July 19.

Messi was unable to score or provide an assist in the final, bringing his run of 11 consecutive World Cup appearances with a goal contribution to an end. The 39-year-old nevertheless completed a remarkable tournament with eight goals and four assists across eight matches.

The personalized gift will now serve as a reminder of a campaign that brought Argentina close to another historic triumph. Although the trophy remained in Spain’s hands, Messi’s gesture captured the unity that carried the defending champions back to football’s biggest stage.
