Arsenal latest: Two medicals completed as transfers wrapped up after deadline day

Arsenal are still wrapping up their final transfer business of the summer

The dust has barely settled on a breathless summer of transfer activity in north London, though Arsenal are not done yet.

The Premier League window may have shut on Tuesday night, but the Gunners still have loose ends to tie up before postponing all further business until January. It has certainly been a summer of considerable investment at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta oversaw five arrivals worth a combined £200million, bringing in Piero Hincapie on a permanent basis for £34.5m, free agent Illan Meslier as back-up cover in goal, winger Christos Tzolis for £34m, midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in a £75m deal, and defender Ezri Konsa for £55m.

On paper, it represents a significant strengthening of a squad that clinched the Premier League title last season. But not everyone affiliated with the club will look back on the window with complete satisfaction.

Arsenal were constantly linked with a marquee forward signing, including Morgan Rogers, Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez, but no deal for a high-profile talisman materialised. It remains to be seen whether that proves costly.

Meanwhile, the Gunners were even busier in terms of outgoings. Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson, Leandro Trossard and Christian Norgaard have all departed, helping to streamline Mikel Arteta ’s squad and free up wages. The biggest exit of all, however, is still being finalised.

'Next Kvaratskhelia' signing wrapped up

Photos began circulating on social media of Andria Bartishvili landing in London on Wednesday for his Arsenal medical, having agreed a five-year contract with the Gunners. The 17-year-old Georgian has been labelled 'the next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia', and is capable of operating as both a winger and a creative midfielder.

Despite completing his transfer, Bartishvili will not link up with the Arsenal first team until he reaches the age of 18 in March 2027. The north London club reportedly fended off competition from the likes of Juventus and Liverpool to secure his signature, agreeing a fee of €4.5m (£3.85m).

Bartishvili has already responded to the wave of reaction surrounding his Arsenal move, posting on Instagram: "A very big thank you to everyone for the congratulations."

£60m Martinelli deal nears completion

Martinelli's transfer to Al-Hilal wasn't completed on deadline day in England. But the 25-year-old is still set to join the Saudi Pro League side from Arsenal in a deal worth an initial £55.7m plus £4.3m in add-ons, representing a record sale for the club.

Martinelli, despite initially wanting to stay put, agreed to the transfer and underwent his medical on Wednesday. According to The Athletic, he will put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Riyadh-based club.

Saudi clubs have until September 6 to finalise their business, unlike the Premier League transfer window which closed on September 1. Since arriving at Arsenal from the Brazilian fourth tier back in 2019, Martinelli has played a key role in helping the Gunners clinch the FA Cup, Premier League and Community Shield on three occasions, contributing 62 goals and 36 assists across 278 appearances.
