Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie had to be carried off the field during the Gunners' warm-down after their victory over Leeds. The defender featured in the game as a substitute but went down clutching his right ankle, completing some further work following the full-time whistle.

Mikel Arteta's side came from behind to earn three points at the Emirates. James Justin opened the scoring for Daniel Farke's team as the north London side struggled to find their rhythm. Riccardo Calafiori got the Gunners back on level terms following a smart move before Bruno Guimaraes scored an impressive winner in the 70th minute.

But Arteta's mood may have soured when he discovered one of his players suffered a late injury outside of match action. Back-up goalkeeper, Illan Meslier, carried Hincapie from the pitch as he was spotted holding his right ankle.

Last month, Hincapie suffered from muscular problems that saw him miss the Carabao Cup against Ipswich Town. The Ecuador international was not called up to the South American side for the three-week break from domestic action before his nine-minute outing against Leeds.

Hincapie was being managed following his early-season issues and had made just four appearances for Arsenal heading into the match against Leeds. The 24-year-old had featured for 152 minutes before Saturday and only started against Napoli, having missed 16 matches for club and country since the start of last season.

He will now have to wait to discover if he faces a more significant spell on the sidelines.

Speaking after the match, Arteta was pleased with his side's reaction after losing to Brighton ahead of the international break.

"It's every time we put that shirt on," he said. "The last time that we put our shirt on, something was missing, and we need to be very conscious of that.

"From being exceptional and being the champions to being extremely average, like in that game, it’s a really thin line. So if you don't want it more than the opponent, you are not able to cope emotionally with certain situations, you're going to suffer.

"We all suffered and we didn't enjoy one bit that game. But then you have to learn the lesson, and we certainly did that. We spoke about it and you could sense that it was something in their tummies."
