Arsenal strike Jesus transfer agreement with Barcelona as fee revealed

Arsenal have agreed on an £8.57million transfer for Gabriel Jesus to join Barcelona. The Gunners stand to earn further remuneration in add-ons as the forward makes the switch to La Liga.

Jesus has trained away from Mikel Arteta's first team and not been included in either of the north London side's matchday squads this term, after being made available for transfer. The Brazilian has been linked to an exit throughout the summer, with Napoli among the suitors, but Arsenal's asking price had previously proven problematic.

Jesus arrived at the Emirates from Manchester City in 2022 and was viewed as a transformative signing. As Arsenal have progressed, the 29-year-old has struggled for minutes due to increased competition and injuries.

His spell at Arsenal has seen him score 32 goals and provide 22 assists across 123 appearances but now he is set to move. Arteta has previously hinted that Jesus was destined to say farewell, referring to 'personal situations' after leaving him out of the team.

"Well, it's something to do with the numbers that we have in the squad at the moment and the way we're managing that kind of situation individually with all the players that have some personal situations," Arteta said in a press conference.

Asked to clarify what he meant by 'personal situations', Arteta added: "Personal situations, whatever they are, I think it's clear."

Jesus is unlikely to be alone in saying goodbye to his Arsenal team-mates in the coming days. Countryman Gabriel Martinelli looks set to join Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal before the end of the window.

The Gunners are said to have agreed a deal worth up to £55.7m for the sale of the winger. The fees will serve as a significant boost for any final business Arsenal wish to undertake.

Arteta's side have been in touch over the possibility of a move for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez and are open to completing a transfer. However, they will only do so if they believe the forward is committed to such a deal.

Alvarez has been keen to move to Barcelona to complete his 'dream', but Atletico have refused to deal with their La Liga rivals.

"The members of Atletico Madrid’s Board of Directors have unanimously expressed their full support for the club’s decision not to negotiate the transfer of Julian Alvarez to FC Barcelona," Atletico said in a statement.

"The members of the Board of Directors are aware that: Atletico Madrid is open to negotiations that are part of the transfer market, but always in an ethical and professional manner and with respect between clubs.

"We fully support the position previously communicated by the club that FC Barcelona have not met these requirements and, as a result, there have been no negotiations, nor will there be any negotiations with them regarding the transfer of Julián Alvarez.”

Alvarez returned to training after missing Atletico's most recent match and must decide whether he prefers to remain at the club following a frosty reception from supporters.
