Trabzonspor are looking to negotiate a permanent deal for Andre Onana, who is on loan from Manchester United.

Back in July, the goalkeeper re-joined Trabzonspor after spending the 2025/2026 campaign on loan with them.

Surprisingly, United opted against including any buy option or clause, despite privately making it clear that Onana has no future at Old Trafford.

They are keen to recuperate a fee from his departure before his contract expires in June 2028, so will likely be open to holding talks with the Super Lig outfit in the coming months.

According to Turkish Football, club president Ertugrul Dogan has ‘initiated plans’ to try and agree a permanent transfer for Onana, who has been a ‘standout’ performer over in Turkey.

It goes without saying that United will get nowhere near the £47.2 million they paid for him back in the summer of 2023, but it’s still worth holding discussions and outlining their valuation – especially if he continues to impress.

The 30-year-old has recorded an 81.5 per cent save percentage since 2026/2027 got underway, making it no surprise Trabzonspor chiefs are bringing forward their plans to add him to their ranks on a long-term basis.

Dogan is said to view Onana as an ‘essential dressing room leader’ who ‘elevates the team’s defensive structure’.

Alas, Trabzonspor will make a formal approach to United just before the window opens in January, as they prefer to discuss potential terms before the ‘summer transfer rush’.

In M16, Senne Lammens has cemented his spot as the No.1 between the sticks and, over the international break, has featured prominently for Belgium in the absence of veteran Thibaut Courtois.
